HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ Producer On Why Chicago Bears Don’t Curse On Show
HBO’s Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the Chicago Bears has been mute on the curse words, and there’s a reason for that.
In a new interview, producer Shannon Furman explained why the NFL team hasn’t used profanity on the show, which is three episodes into the season.

“I’ll be honest, this team curses much less than any other team I’ve been around, but it is out of respect for the McCaskey family,” Furman said on the CHGO Bears podcast, referring to the team’s owners.
Furman added, “It’s something that they don’t do and wouldn’t want to see it. So it’s just kind of been a decision that was made out of respect for them, letting us in their house and wanting to be respectful to them.”

According to the Chicago Bears website, Virginia Halas McCaskey has been the team’s principal owner since her father’s death in 1983.
McCaskey celebrated her 101st birthday in January, and Bears tight end Cole Kmet called her the “queen of Chicago” in an interview with CBS News.
“She’s like royalty. Pretty amazing stuff – you know, she’s been around, and she just takes great pride in this organization, and you know, we all feel that from the top down,” he said.
The most current season of Hard Knocks premiered on August 6 and airs on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max. The season finale is set for September 3.
This is the first time the Chicago Bears are featured in the HBO docuseries since its debut in 2001.
“Our players, coaches and staff are excited to continue the process of building for the 2024 season,” Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus said in a statement ahead of the show’s premiere.
General Manager Ryan Poles noted that this year’s training camp for the NFL team “will be big for us in preparation for achieving our season goals, and we look forward to bringing the fans at home along for the journey.”
