Director and producer has gained unprecedented access to those closest to the case, according to HBO and Sky, including the defence team, the Syed family, friends and teachers of Hae Min Lee and Adnan Syed, and members of Baltimore City law enforcement.

The documentary has been in production since 2015, and will closely re-examines the events leading up to Hae Min Lee's disappearance in January 1999, the aftermath of her disappearance, and the original police investigation to the present day, when Syed awaits a new trial.

Sky adds that the series will present new discoveries as well as "ground-breaking revelations" that challenge the state's case, and traces how the rush to justice and Syed's conviction in 2000 raised more questions than answers about what happened to Hae Min Lee, underscoring the instability of memory and conflicting eyewitnesses.
