Good news and bad news, kids: That Deadwood revival movie is one step closer to happening, but there are still major hurdles holding it back from happening.

First of all, the good news. HBO has seen the script from the show's creator David Milch, the one that star W Earl Brown said was "stunning", and they are happy with it.

Speaking to TVLine, HBO's programming executive Casey Bloys said: "The one thing that I was concerned about was I wanted a script that would stand on its own.

"David totally delivered on that. I think it's a terrific script."

Well that's all sugar and rainbows, but where's the but?

"If we can do it on a budget that makes sense for us, and if we can get the cast together, we're inclined to do it."

That's a lot of 'if' there, Casey.

A Deadwood revival wouldn't just be for nostalgia reasons, it would actually serve to wrap up all the stories that have remained unresolved since the show was unceremoniously cancelled after three seasons.

Main star Ian McShane said that all the cast would love to do it, stating "It would be nice to see all of the old gang again."

Fear the Walking Dead star Kim Dickens recently told Digital Spy that she hoped a movie would be made, as the cast never got a chance to finish the story.

"It always felt like such a disturbance to have ended it so abruptly. It really just needed one more season to finish."
