Health secretary Sajid Javid finished first full day in role

Sajid Javid has returned to frontline politics, re-joining Boris Johnson’s cabinet. The former Chancellor and Home Secretary replaces Matt Hancock as Health Secretary. Mr Hancock resigned from his role over the weekend when he admitted breaking social distancing guidelines after footage emerged showing him kissing a close aide. Mr Javid started his first full day as Health Secretary meeting staff at St Thomas’ Hospital in Westminster and said his priority was to see Covid restrictions lifted this month. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister started his day in West Yorkshire on a campaign visit ahead of Thursday’s Batley & Spen by-election. He dismissed suggestions he should have sacked Matt Hancock.
