A distressed mum and her young children were found "wrapped in blankets" inside their freezing home after being left unable to afford to put the heating on.

The woman, from Dewsbury, and her children had been left freezing in their own home after her gas ran out the day before pay day. Thankfully, Huddersfield's community hero, Tanisha Bramwell, was able to step in and help after the mum reluctantly reached out for help.

Tanisha said the situation broke her heart when she discovered arrived to find the children wrapped in blankets at the window of the home that was colder inside than the sub-zero temperatures outside. The team were able to provide the woman with £60 to top up her gas to keep her home and her children warm until pay day.

Taking to Facebook Tanisha penned: "Tonight a struggling mother has reached out, her gas has been off since this morning. When we arrived her home was freezing and her children were wrapped up in jumpers and blankets. We supplied a £60.00 gas payment to heat her home until her wage arrives."

The post was quickly flooded with comments praising Tanisha and her team for helping the family out during their time of need.

Wesley Dring penned: "Tanisha you are an incredible person doing amazing work, a true inspiration", Nicky Valentine wrote: "What fantastic work you do it certainly maintains your faith in humanity" and Gary Fryer responded with: "You are an absolutely amazing person in what u do for people that needs help."

Tanisha Bramwell told Yorkshire Live: "This visit was heart-breaking, on arrival the kids were at the windows, clearly wrapped up in jumpers and blankets, the house was cold, mum looked distraught and the kids looked tired.

"These situations are becoming normal and regardless of how long we have run a service of this nature, these visits do not get easier. Fortunately we supplied a £60 payment to this family to ensure they’re warm and comfortable."

Sadly, this family is just one of many Tanisha and her team are fighting to help every day amid the ongoing cost of living crisis. You can donate to the Food Bank via their Amazon wish list, here.
