'My Heart Is So Heavy, Y’all': Tennessean Looks Over Damage in East Nashville

At least 22 people reportedly died after a tornado touched down in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 3.

The tornado – which the National Weather Service estimates was at least an EF-3 – destroyed buildings, downed trees, and cut power to thousands of people across the region.

This video shows the devastation left behind by the tornado in East Nashville.

More than 48,000 Nashville Electric Service customers were without power as of 10.20 am on Tuesday, according to the company’s outage map.

Officials told local media that deaths from the severe weather were reported in the Tennessee counties of Putnam, Wilson, Davidson, and Benton.

Resident Owen Elliott captured this video from the Five Points area of East Nashville

Elliott told Storyful he slept through the tornado but woke up to texts from his family informing him the area was hit by the storm.

“I immediately walked to my favorite concert venue, The Basement East, where I saw half of the roof missing and the building destroyed,” Elliott said. “I was distraught looking at the devastation knowing I would never see another concert there again.”
