Heartbreak for North Staffordshire Britain's Got Talent couple as they just miss out on Final

Teacher-come-comedian Alex Mitchell and magician Trixy have made it through to the live finals of Britain’s Got Talent. Soprano Denise Leigh and pianist husband Stefan Andrusyschyn made it to the final three in tonight’s semi-finals (Friday May 31), but sadly the Adley couple’s journey was brought to an end.

The pair – both registered blind - dazzled judges in their initial audition, which saw Stefan play the piano as Denise sang a spellbinding rendition of ‘Climb Every Mountain’ from The Sound of Music.

Ahead of the semi-final, Stefan said: “Tonight’s show is completely live in front of five and a half thousand people at the Hammersmith Apollo and a TV audience of about seven million. I’m trying not to think about it but, I mean, it’s the only thing I’m thinking about!

“It’s going to be flashier and louder and there’s a visual that they’ve created to go along with it, which I’m told is amazing. I mean, in fairness, they could tell me anything.

“Hopefully, it’ll be something people can relate to and people will vote for us to get into the final.”

Now Alex and Trixy will join other talents such as Abigail and Afronita, Sydnie Christmas, Northants Sings Out, Jack Rhodes, Haribow, Mike Woodhams, Innocent Masuku, and Ssaulabi Performance Troupe. There will also be a wild card, where one act will be chosen to progress to the live finals.

Alex was the act who won the public’s hearts tonight, as he was the first to make it through to the finals based on public votes. The grand final will take place on Sunday June 2.

The 11 contestants will be performing their hearts out in a battle to be crowned winner, which comes with a hefty £250,000 cash prize, as well as a spot on the bill of the Royal Variety Performance later on this year.
