A picture has emerged online showing the former Xcite site in Livingston, that was home to the locally known swimming pool 'Bubbles', being dismantled with the next chapter for the site on the horizon.

Many West Lothian and Edinburgh residents will remember spending their time in the fun filled centre on the flumes at the popular swimming pool.

There were attempts to try to save the site so that it could continue to operate as a leisure site but sadly West Lothian Council say they received no offers that would allow for this scenario.

The images of the beloved site being dismantled will break many of a heart but the site has now been earmarked for development by West Coast Estates Limited (WCEL).

Heavy duty machinery could be seen tearing away at the building with several skips littered across the former leisure centre car park.

WCEL are understood to operate within the 'property development and investment sector.'

In a statement released in November of 2023, the local authority said: "Multiple commercial/private offers were received but there were no offers from community groups and no offers received of any kind that would see the property operate as a swimming pool going forward. No community asset transfer applications were received.

"The highest offer received at the closing date was for £850,000 and the site will be sold to a private company called West Coast Estates Limited (WCEL). WCEL operate within the property development and investment sector and have a proven track record of commercial property development, working in Scotland since 1991.

"WCEL propose to clear the site and develop it to provide a new petrol filling station (to include an ancillary grocery convenience store), jet wash and electric vehicle charging facilities, plus a drive-thru restaurant.

"WCEL are private/commercial and any development would be subject to planning consent."
