Heartbroken friends and family of a 'beautiful' 22-year-old who died after being diagnosed with a rare cancer are set to celebrate her life today. Those attending the service in Cheddleton are being asked to wear 'lots of colour' as they remember Elyse Foster.

StokeonTrentLive had reported how Elyse, of Cheddleton, had been in the Royal Stoke University Hospital's critical care unit having undergone surgery when she suffered a cardiac arrest on October 7. Tests sadly revealed she had sustained brain damage and her life support machine was turned off 10 days later.

Mum Kirstie Tittensor had said her "bright and beautiful" was "fighting" and "winning" her battle with cancer. Former Westwood College student Elyse, who was a care assistant at Treetops Court Care Home in Leek, while also studying to become a children's nurse, was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis in March this year.

A scan then revealed she had a thymoma - a rare cancer that had spread to one of her lungs. Her popularity was demonstrated after a gofundme page was set up in her memory - with more than £13,000 being raised.

Today and a service to celebrate her life will take place in the grounds of Cheddleton's Ashcombe Park Cricket Club at 1pm. A private interment service will follow.

The death notice in The Sentinel stated: "Tragically on October 17 at the RSUH surrounded by her loving family, Elyse Joy Foster aged 22 years of Cheddleton. The much loved and devoted daughter of Kirstie, precious sister of Alexa, much loved half-sister of Keelie, treasured granddaughter of Alan and Joy, much loved niece of Gareth and Kerry, a loving great-granddaughter, cousin, niece and great-niece. Elyse will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her wonderful best friends and work colleagues.

"Family and friends are invited to stay on at Ashcombe Park for refreshments and to share memories, moments of love and to raise a glass in honour of Elyse as the celebrations of her life continue into the evening. A special request for lots of colour, no black mourning attire please."

A request has been made for family flowers only with donations being accepted for The Willow Foundation, Thymic UK and the Ella Dawson Foundation.
