Get the sunhats, sun cream and sunglasses out…and a good book because your train journey to work may be adversely affected by the heatwave.

Network Rail have implemented speed restrictions on various vulnerable track points to prevent buckling due to the soaring temperatures.

As a result, First Great Western has cancelled several fast trains from London Paddington.

A spokesman for First Great Western said: ‘First Great Western is advising passengers that due to the anticipated hot weather Network Rail is to impose a speed restriction in the London Thames Valley area to protect track points on Tuesday June 30.

‘As a result there will be no fast trains between between London Paddington and Bourne End or Henley-on-Thames from 12:00 until 20:00.’

Just in case you are starting to sweat, not just due to the temperature - only six out of 1,250 have been cancelled…so far.

Health warnings have been issued by the NHS with special emphasis towards vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and people with breathing difficulties.

So keep hydrated and watch out for train developments - the British Summer has finally arrived.
