Heavy rain is set to batter Glasgow today, Sunday May 26, with a yellow warning for downpours and possible flooding in place.

The Met Office warning comes into effect from 1pm this afternoon and will last until midnight (May 27). It covers Glasgow, North and South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire.

It'll see these areas drenched as heavy rain pours throughout the day, causing some disruption to travel according to the Met Office. There is also a chance of some thunderstorms.

Bus and train services may be affected so it's important to check your journeys before heading out. Flooding of homes and businesses is also possible.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Slow-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during Sunday afternoon and evening.

"Rainfall accumulations will vary significantly across the warning area but where showers become organised, there is the possibility of 20 mm of rain falling in an hour. Following on from recent wet weather this will bring a risk of some flooding."
