Police were out in force in Athens on the evening of March 10, a night after protests in the Greek capitol against police brutality turned violent.
Protests on Tuesday centered around the Nea Smyrni area of Athens, where a man was reportedly beaten by police over the weekend. Video of the incident drew thousands into the streets, where some hurled objects at the police, lit flares, and started fires in trash cans. Police estimated the number of demonstrators on Tuesday at around 5,000.
