Heavy Rain Causes Flood Conditions Near Longreach in Regional Queensland

The Thomson River near Longreach, in regional northern Queensland, experienced flooding on January 3 as water spilled over the river banks and local amenities.

Media reported heavy rainfall over the prior few days had caused “localised river and creek rises across upper parts of the Thomson River catchment.”

A moderate flood warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for the river, which expected it may reach 4.30 metres on January 3.

On December 28 the weather bureau warned of heavy rainfall across the west of the state for areas including Longreach.

“More rain around the region overnight and today, with a cyclone moving in promising more rain. Farmers are excited!” Aaron Skinn, who filmed the video, told Storyful. Credit: Aaron Thebaker Skinn via Storyful
