Heavy rain triggers mudslide burying bus in northern China

On May 22, torrential rain hit Huocheng County in Xinjiang, northern China, leading to a devastating mudslide that left a bus stranded in the middle of the road, with its interior buried under the debris. Eyewitnesses reported that all passengers on board had been successfully rescued and evacuated. Local emergency authorities stated that no casualties have been reported thus far, and they are currently assessing the impact of the severe weather conditions that triggered this disaster. At 2 pm on the same day, the meteorological department issued an orange alert for heavy rain. Huocheng County experienced rainfall exceeding 24.1 millimetres within an hour, which can potentially result in floods, mudslides, and landslides, especially in mountainous areas.
