Heavy rain warning upgraded to Amber for Leicestershire
The Met Office has upgraded its weather warning for Leicestershire and surrounding areas. Forecasters are urging people to be alert to potential flooding, power cuts and other disruption.
The new amber warning comes into effect at 6pm today (Thursday, September 26) and will remain in place until 6am on Friday (September 27). The Met Office said there is a "good chance some communities will be cut off by flooded roads".
Homes and businesses are also "likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings", the Met Office continued, with travel disruption also expected. The alert comes after the country saw heavy rainfall last weekend. One Leicestershire town was turned into a "giant paddling pool" according to a reader, while parts of the city were also "overwhelmed".

Yellow rain warnings had already been in place for the county and large parts of England and Wales but have now been increased to the next level. In Leicestershire, different areas are likely to see different amounts of rain.
Some locations could see 30-40mm of rain in two to three hours, according to the Met Office. However, others could receive up to 60mm.
