Heavy Rainfall Submerges New York Street and Floods Subway Station

New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood was soaked above ground and below on July 8, as a thunderstorm dumped several inches of rain on the intersection of 157th Street and Broadway and flooded the 157th Street subway station underneath it.

Footage taken by Stephen Ashley Smith on Thursday afternoon shows the streets submerged in water. He then shows the rainwater pouring through cracks in the walls of the subway station.

According to local media, the subway system was back to normal by Friday morning after crews spent the night draining the flooded stations. Credit: Stephen Ashley Smith via Storyful
