Heavy Snow Forces Road Closures at Big Bend National Park in Texas

Several roads remained closed at Big Bend National Park on Sunday, March 19, after heavy snow continued to fall in southwest Texas.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said Chisos Basin, a mountain basin in the Chisos Mountains within the park, recorded six to eight inches of snow on Saturday.

The road leading to the basin was reopened on Sunday morning. This footage, released by Big Bend National Park, shows wintery scenes on the road leading to the basin. Several backcountry roads within the park remained closed on Sunday, the park said.

The NWS said temperatures would remain low on Sunday as the snowfall tapered off, with warmer weather expected Monday. Credit: Big Bend National Park via Storyful
