Helen Skelton walked out of her interview with Lorraine to control her dog, moments after speaking about her marriage split for the first time.

The Countryfile presenter — who announced her split from English rugby league player Richie Myler in April, just four months after the birth of their third child — gave a chaotic interview via videolink on the ITV daytime show live from her busy family home.

Skelton, 38, was asked by host Lorraine Kelly if she was coping with her marriage breakdown by throwing herself into work.

The mother-of-three said: "I think anybody in my position would say the same. I've got three small children and a very loud dog as you can hear."

A dog could be heard barking very loudly off camera.

Kelly replied: "It's fine. Kids and dogs and all that, your life is like that, it really is. And you're used to the chaos! So you're my kind of woman, you put on a brave face and you're back out doing the series..."

Skelton then walked off camera and the barking noise stopped.

The former Blue Peter presenter returned and said: "It's uncharacteristically calm around here this morning because I'm working this week.

"My mum has come to stay for the week, because she doesn't live near, so she's got the kids off to school. Monday morning when you've got to get the kids to school is just... It's the same drill every day but somehow it's always chaos! 'Get the socks on, get their shoes on, where's their school bags?!'

"So mum's in control but she forgot to put her granny magic onto the dogs, sorry!"

Skelton is hosting a new series of Channel 5 show Summer On The Farm Live.

In April, she announced on Instagram she had split from her husband Myler after eight years together.

She said: "Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children."

The TV presenter and Myler became engaged in March 2012 and married in December 2013.

They are parents to sons Ernie, seven, Louis, five, and six-month-old daughter Elsie Kate.

Just a few hours before she announced the split Skelton shared a quote on Instagram which read: "A mama is always full of emotions full of love. Full of anxiety and worries. Full of exhaustion and lack of energy. Full of mum guilt and doubt. Full of pride in her kids. Full of pure joy.

"She feels it all, that's the beauty of her, she carries it all, too,

"And yet she gets up everyday and does it all over again."

Skelton, who grew up on a farm in Cumbria, began her career as an actress and had a supporting role in Coronation Street as a teenager.
