Helicopter Gathers Water to Fight Algarve Wildfire

A helicopter was seen gathering water from a lake at Quinta do Lago golf course in Almancil, Portugal, on July 13 to help combat a nearby wildfire amid a heat wave.

Twitter user TonyC recorded the scene and praised the dedication of the firefighters saying: “Big shout of appreciation to the helicopter crews who have been working tirelessly all day since 7 am fighting the Algarve fires.”

The Portuguese government declared a state of alert across the country from July 11 to July 15, due to the increased risk of forest fires during the heat wave.
