Helicopter sweeps Menai Strait in search for teenager who entered water
A rescue helicopter has been sweeping the Menai Strait as the search for a teenager who entered the water on Friday continues. Shortly before 9:45am on Friday, it was reported that an individual had entered the water at Menai Bridge.
A huge search and rescue operation was launched involving emergency teams from the RNLI, North Wales Police, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the Coastguard, and the Aeronautical Rescue Co-Ordination Centre.
Despite their exhaustive efforts, emergency services were unable to locate the individual, and the search was suspended on Friday night. Further shoreline searches have taken place over the weekend.
It has also been reported on social media that the family and friends of the person are helping search the shore. It is reported the person is a local teenage boy.
This afternoon the Coastguard helicopter performed sweeps of the Strait to assist with the search. The Coastguard said they had received two reported potential sightings. But on inspection these had been found to be false alarms with good intentions.
Hundreds of messages of support have been given to the boy's family and friends on social media with a huge number of offers of support in the search. People have been urged to take great care around the coastline and not take any risks.
