Sasha Lane is circling a role in the new Hellboy reboot.

The American Honey actress is understood to be in final negotiations for the role of Alice Monaghan (via THR), meaning she should soon join Stranger Things' David Harbour, Milla Jovovich and Ian McShane in the new movie adaptation of Mike Mignola's comic books.

Harbour is starring as the hero demon (and even has big-screen predecessor Ron Perlman's blessing), with Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) directing from the comics.

Screenwriter Andrew Cosby has said we can expect a "darker, more gruesome" version than Guillermo del Toro's two films, while Marshal has revealed he's allowed to make it R-rated.

"We've been granted permission to do it R-rated, which for me is just like taking the cuffs off," Marshall said on podcast Post Mortem.

"It's like, okay, so now we can just make the movie we want to make.

"It's not like I'm going to force it to be R-rated, but if it happens to come out that way, just because of my own sensibilities, then fine."

This new version, called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, will see the titular hero facing a medieval sorceress looking to destroy mankind.

Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin are producing the project alongside Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson, with a potential shooting start of September.
