It's been a big week for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 3 in the wake of the announcement that James Gunn was back on board.

The director was fired from the franchise last summer after controversial old tweets surfaced, though was brought back last week.

However, while the cogs for the next Guardians movie are now in motion, don't expect it to begin production anytime soon.

According to a new listing in Production Weekly, Guardians 3 – under the working title Hot Christmas – will apparently not start shooting until February 2021.

While this seems like a long, long way off, it's not entirely surprising since Gunn is prioritising work on The Suicide Squad, set for release in summer 2021.

So once he's done with Harley Quinn and co, we are sure he'll be turning his full attention to Star-Lord and the gang.

Speaking last week about being reinstated as director, Gunn said in a statement: "I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months.

"I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be. I deeply appreciate Disney's decision and I am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all.

"I have been and continue to be incredibly humbled by your love and support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Love to you all."
