A popular dessert shop in Newport, which temporarily shut its doors earlier this month, says it is 'exploring options' as it looks to reopen.

In an update to customers, Sweet Charlie's has said it is looking at ways to make the business viable, including a potential move of premises.

The shop shut on January 17, just days after a fundraiser was launched to raise £35,000 in a bid to secure its future.

At the time it said the closure was only temporary.

Posting on Facebook, owner Charlie said closing "broke her heart". She also sought to clarify questions for those with gift vouchers.

She said: "We have worked tirelessly to create Sweet Charlie’s and building a team. My biggest fear in setting up a business was the responsibility of having peoples livelihoods in my hands.

"It’s taken all this time to establish a core team. And telling the team that we had no choice but to hit the pause button and see what measures were needed to save Sweet Charlie’s. It broke my heart and it’s one of the hardest things I’ve personally faced.

"This for us is a temporary closure and we hope to open as soon as possible. But we have serious decisions that need need making. Like moving premises as well as other options."

What to do if you have a gift card or voucher?

Sweet Charlie's has said gift cards will automatically be extended for six months.

Or, if customers prefer, can be redeemed for gift bouquets. Islanders wanting to do this can contact the Facebook page.
