Nutrition expert Yoko Inoue, who founded the superfood cafe Shokuiku, says, ‘Vodka has the least ‘hangover causing’ toxins, particularly congeners, compared to other dark liquors like scotch and whisky.

‘So when selecting a drink, choose cleaner options and space out drinks with extra glasses of water.’

Dutch studies found that ‘brown drinks’ gave people worse hangovers – and meant that they felt hungover after fewer drinks.

Experts suggest sticking to drinks like vodka, rather than quaffing loads of beer or wine – and watching what you mix it with.
