Kanye West might be one of the biggest names in the music industry, but he made the decision to skip the 2019 Grammys for a series of pretty interesting reasons.
For anyone who's been sleeping on pop culture for the past 10 years, Ye has had a complicated and fractious relationship with the event since time began, with his recent album failing to secure nominations in any categories.
Still, he did manage to bag a nomination for Producer of the Year, so why not throw on a suit and cause a bit of chaos again?
Interestingly enough, Ye hasn't attended the Grammys since back in 2015 when he and Taylor Swift temporarily called off their feud and posed for a few pictures together.
Just a year previously, he had spoken out against the committee for snubbing him on the Album of the Year nomination.
At the time, he made his feelings very clear: "Since when was making art about getting rich? ... Remind me again why we in this shit? Remind me again why the Grammys [can] suck my dick," he said during a concert.
He later told E! News: "The Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We aren't going to play with them no more. Beck needs to respect artistry, he should have given his award to Beyoncé."
All in all, it sounds like Kanye doesn't always agree with some of the decisions made at the Grammys and has recently made the decision to steer clear from the controversy altogether.
Probably a good move.
