A two-year-old girl survived a fall from a 12th-floor balcony in Vietnam after a heroic deliver driver climbed onto a roof to catch her.

Nguyen Ngoc Manh, 31, was sitting his truck waiting to deliver a package in Hanoi on Sunday when he heard a child crying.

He told the Anninhthudo news organisation that he could also hear a woman screaming and he thought a child was having a tantrum.

Mr Manh told local media that he climbed a two-metre high tile roof to be in a suitable position to catch the girl.

“Everything happened within a minute,” he told VN Express International.

“I didn’t understand how I could scale the roof that quickly. I couldn’t believe I saved the girl’s life.”

Footage shows the moment the toddler fell 12 storeys to land in Mr Manh’s arms.

Mr Manh said he lost his footing as the girl began to fall and had to fling himself forwards to catch her. He landed so hard that he left a dent in the roof.

“I tried to reach out my hand and took the maximum effort to catch the girl,” he said.

After he caught the toddler, Mr Manh said he was “very frightened” as he noticed there was blood leaking from her mouth.

The two-year-old was taken to the National Children’s Hospital. Doctors said she dislocated her hip but suffered no other injuries.

The father-of-one “slightly sprained” his arm after catching the girl.

He told Anninhthudo that only after rushing home to hug his own daughter who is also two-years-old, did he feel at ease.
