Hero Snowboarder Digs Out Escaped Horse Trapped In The Snow

A snowboarder has been hailed a hero after he helped dig out an escaped horse who’d gotten stuck in the snow - and caught the whole incident on camera.

Rafael Pease was celebrating his 21st birthday on the slopes of the Andes Mountains in Chile when he spotted the disorientated animal.

It was severely weakened after wandering onto the El Colorado resort some four days previously.

Pease, who had a GoPro camera strapped to his helmet, realised the animal would probably soon die.

“I thought at first that the horse was a rock when I saw it in the distance but then I realised it was a horse and went over,” he said.

“It was clear it had given up trying to free itself and was exhausted and was going to die unless someone did something,” he added.

With the help of other boarders and skiers, he removed several feet of snow from around the horse.

He then fed it dry biscuits before attaching a rope around its neck and leading it down to the safety of the ski centre.

The horse was then reunited with its delighted owner, who said he was baffled as to how the animal had escaped.
