Heroic car driver jumps into driverless lorry to stop it from sliding off road

A heroic car driver jumped into a driveless lorry to stop it from sliding down a highway in eastern China.

The terrifying video, filmed in Wenzhou City in Zhejiang Province, shows a driverless lorry sliding down the highway on the wrong side of the road.

A car driver driving past stopped his vehicle and ran to hold the door of the lorry before jumping into it to stop it.

After the man pulled on the brake, the lorry carried on moving for more than 200 metres before finally stopping in the middle of the road.

According to reports, the car driver, Liu Wenzhong, is a digger operator. He saw the out-of-control lorry when he was driving to work.

Liu realised the HGV was out of control when the lorry kept moving to the left and scratched along the guardrails. At first, he thought the lorry driver might have nodded off and beeped his horn to try to wake him up.

However, the lorry did not slow down, and Liu saw a person lying on the road behind the lorry from the rear-view mirror in his car.

Taking matters into his own hands, Liu speeded up to overtake the lorry, stopped his car, got out and chased the lorry on foot.

The lorry driver named Guo said he had pulled over to check the vehicle after he felt it had something wrong. Guo forgot the section of the highway was downhill and the lorry started to roll off. Guo was run over by the lorry and suffered fractures despite placing planks of wood under the front wheels whilst lying underneath the vehicle.
