A new Heron Foods discount supermarket has opened in a Nottingham suburb, taking over a former Wilko unit. The retailer opened its doors on Mansfield Road, Sherwood, on Thursday, November 28, bringing shoppers a wide range of products at "unbeatable" prices.

The new arrival comes just over a year after the Wilko Sherwood branch shut on September 19, 2023, following the retailer's collapse. A spokesperson for Heron Foods said: "We’re thrilled to now be open in Sherwood.

"We hope our new Heron Foods store adds to the local community and we were delighted to hear positive comments from locals. I’d also like to personally thank colleagues for their efforts in getting the new store ready as well as our neighbours who have shown support throughout."

The store offer a range of ambient, frozen and chilled products at low prices, as well as seasonal and best buy ranges. The store also stocks a huge food and drinks range, as well as limited-time deals.

On opening day, the first 100 customers who spent £15 or more were offered a £5 voucher. The retailer previously announced it was recruiting for a number of staff members, including sales assistants, senior sales assistants, duty managers and a store cleaner.

Other ex-Wilko branches across Nottinghamshire have opened as Boyes in Beeston, Farmfoods in Carlton and B&M in Arnold.
