Welcome to our column, "Hey, Quick Question," where we investigate seemingly random happenings in the fashion and beauty industries.

While a handful of stars have continued to launch beauty brands, 2023 has seen a relative a slow-down in the celebrity beauty boom of years prior, and a return to professionals taking back the industry. But on Tuesday, Beyoncé seemed to single handedly upend that trend: The music icon took to Instagram to strongly hint that she'll soon be making a foray into the business via a hair-care brand.

The post featured a gallery that included a photo of her wearing her natural curls, surrounded by hot tools and un-branded lab samples of product; a throwback image of her getting her hair braided as a child; and a handwritten note directly from Queen B to her fans.

In the note, Beyoncé recalled her beauty roots, noting that her first job was sweeping hair in her mother's salon — and that Destiny's Child got their start performing for clients while they were getting their hair done.

"I was exposed to so many different kinds of entrepreneurial women in [my mom's] salon. I saw firsthand how the ways we nurture and celebrate hair can directly impact our souls," she recalled. "I watched her heal and be of service to so many women. Having learned so much on my hair journey, I've always dreamed of carrying on her legacy."

But it was the last line of this note that really underscored what's to come from Beyoncé: "I can't wait for you to experience what I've been creating," she wrote. Bey, What. Have. You. Been. Creating???????

Over the years, a handful of top-tier beauty creatives — makeup artist Sir John, hairstylist Kim Kimble and colorist Rita Hazan, to name a few — have risen to prominence, in part due to their proximity to and regular work with Beyoncé. The latter two have even launched their own successful hair-care lines; in some ways, it was inevitable that Beyoncé would eventually get in on the action herself.

Watch this space for updates we're already eagerly anticipating, along with legions of Beyoncé fans.
