The hidden gem Kent Christmas market you've probably never heard of named among 'UK's quirkiest'
There really is nothing quite like Kent at Christmas, with stunning festive lights shining in our streets and charming markets helping to spread the cheer throughout the county. We are truly spoiled when it comes to Christmas markets, with practically every town boasting their own offering to explore for a day of gift buying and delicious food.
Yearly favourites such as Canterbury and Rochester markets attract visitors from all over the country, thanks to their prestigious reputation. However some of the smaller, underrated markets are just as amazing - and are well worth a visit this year.
In fact, one lesser-known indoor market has just been named among the quirkiest in all of the UK. WhichBingo has taken a look at the nation’s ‘hidden festive gems’ and ranked its picks for the Top 10 Quirky Christmas Markets You’ve Never Heard Of.

Just squeezing onto the list in 10th place is the Global Challenge Christmas Craft Fair, a charming celebration of local artisans in Broadstairs. Held on just one day, the event will take place on Saturday, December 7 this year at the Queens Road Baptist Church.
Kicking off at 11am, the unique market promises local crafts and delights, ranging from handmade gifts to scrumptious mulled wine with 20 stalls signed up for visitors to peruse. Father Christmas is hoped to be making an appearance at the craft fair too, giving the little ones a chance to make sure the big man gets their wish list this year.
There are some great goodies to be won as well, with a chance to stay in a lavish king-size room for two at The Dog in Wingham, followed by a yummy breakfast the next morning up for grabs in a silent auction. Guests will just need to place their bid for the getaway in one of the provided envelopes, with the highest bidder winning the night's stay at the celebrated boutique hotel.
It wouldn’t be a Christmas market without some music, and organisers have confirmed that local singer Kirsty Hawkins will be bringing the festive tunes. WhichBingo added: “This charming craft fair is a celebration of local artisans and festive creativity.
"Set in the quaint seaside town of Broadstairs, the market features handmade goods, unique gifts and seasonal treats. Visitors can enjoy the cosy community vibe while browsing a wide range of crafts with its picturesque coastal location adding to the magic.”
The craft fair will be running until 4pm, and visitors will also be able to make the most of the venue’s café which is open between 10am and 2pm. Not only is this a fantastic opportunity to explore an off-the-wall market in the run-up to Christmas, it’s also all for a good cause.
The craft fair is organised by and hosted in aid of local charity Global Challenge which operates out of the church, with its volunteers working to alleviate poverty and improve the quality of life for struggling communities in Uganda. All funds raised from the market will go towards supporting the charity’s various projects including funding school staff, teacher training, meal provisions, livestock schemes, sanitary products and clothing.
Further information about Global Challenge and their work can be found here. Those keen on attending the fair are advised that there is no parking available on site, though there is a bus stop at the front of the building.
Free street parking can be found on the Western Esplanade, which is a 10-minute walk away. Paid parking is available in Broadstairs High Street, as well nearby in Albion Street, Broadstairs Harbour and Chandos Square.
