Hidden gem secluded beach on the doorstep of a 'lost village'
We're incredibly fortunate in Somerset to have such close proximity to the breathtaking coastline. However, our beaches and coastal paths can become quite congested.
There's a hidden gem that's worth discovering where you can enjoy the beach all to yourself, with absolutely stunning views to boot.
Most of us are familiar with Lulworth Cove in Dorset, a popular spot. But not far from there lies the majestic Worbarrow Bay, accessible only by sea or from the 'lost village' of Tyneham.

This spectacular bay was brought to our attention by photographer Mark Wilkinson, who shared some truly beautiful images of this unique location.
To reach the beach, park your car at the Tyneham village car park and then it's just about a one-mile (20-minute) walk.
Here, you can enjoy a picnic without being overwhelmed by crowds, ice cream vans or donkeys. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and the water is perfect for a dip when the weather permits - always remember to check the tides before swimming.
The journey from Somerset is not too far, a maximum two-hour drive depending on your location, and it's also not far from Lyme Regis or Lulworth Cove.
Tyneham is known as the 'lost village' of Dorset because it was evacuated during World War 2 and the residents were never allowed to return. Essentially, life came to a standstill here in 1943.
Worbarrow Bay forms part of the stunning Jurassic Coast. The South West Coastal Path runs along this stretch of coastline from Studland Bay in the east all the way to Minehead in Somerset.
The Bay, though not the easiest to reach, can be a serene spot for picnics or simply enjoying nature's tranquillity.
Parking facilities (charges apply) and toilets are available at Tyneham village, but the narrow roads may not accommodate larger vehicles. The shingle beach is dog-friendly, with swimming deemed safe only in favourable weather conditions.
Managed by the Ministry of Defence (MOD), access to Worbarrow Bay and Tyneham village is restricted to most weekends and school holidays, with entry permitted only on days when the gates are open. For precise opening dates and times for Tyneham village, Worbarrow Bay, and the Range Walks, refer to Lulworth Ranges and Tyneham Information.
This beautiful bay, tucked away from the hustle and bustle, is certainly worth exploring.
