An electronics store is set to close next month becoming the latest casualty on the high street.

Currys in Western Road, Brighton, will shut its doors for the last time next week due to the lease of the store coming to an end.

Visitors to the shop saw part of the store cordoned off, while shelves appeared bare as the retailer seeks to sell the last of its merchandise before closing.

Currys is offering its final Brighton customers discounts on some selected ex-display items, including 30 per cent off Bluetooth speakers and small kitchen appliances, and 20 per cent off some laptops.

Posters in the store have also encouraged customers to visit their Hove outlet in Old Shoreham Road once the Western Road shop closes for good on February 4.

It comes as Churchill Square stationer Paperchase’s future hangs in the balance as its owners seek to find a buyer for the business and line up administrators.

A spokesman for Currys said all employees at the store have been offered roles in neighbouring stores.

He said: “Our Brighton Western Road store will be closing on February 4 as the lease comes to an end and we continue our focus on retail park stores where we can offer out customers the widest possible range.

“Our customers in Brighton will still be able to find all the tech they need at our store just two miles away on Old Shoreham Road in Hove, where our colleagues will be looking forward to helping them.

“All colleagues affected by the closure of our Western Road store have been offered roles in our neighbouring stores.”
