Highcross explains reasons behind cracked window pane and closed car park level
Leicester's Highcross bosses have claimed "natural wear and tear" is responsible for a cracked window pane that has been cordoned off on its walkway. They have also addressed the reasons that have led to an entire level of their multi-storey car park being shut to motorists too.
The pane, which is seen along Highcross' glass walkway over Vaughan Way, has been in its cracked state for at least two weeks according to shoppers. Images have shown the pane cordoned off, but the reason for it has not been revealed until now.
A spokesperson said “natural wear and tear” has led to a window pane cracking. They claimed the issue will be addressed as part of "routine maintenance", but it is not the only issue spotted at the shopping centre in recent days.

Level two of the Highcross car park is also closed off to motorists for similar reasons according to bosses. A Highcross spokesperson said they wanted to "minimise" disruption throughout the maintenance, but have not provided a date on the works being completed.
A spokeswoman for the Highcross said: “As a shopping centre that welcomes around 17 million people each year, it’s understandable that natural wear and tear is likely to occur. This means that some areas, like our level two car park and a window pane in our glass walkway, require some routine maintenance.
“As with any routine maintenance, we aim to minimise disruption to our shoppers. While the work is carried out on both areas, we can confirm the walkway remains fully open and that shoppers can still park in both the ground and 1st levels, and levels 3 – 7 of the Multi-Storey Car Park.”
