Highway Closed as Bushfire Burns Out of Control Near Wingello

The Hume Highway was closed to traffic when a bushfire grew out of control near the New South Wales town of Wingello at about 2 pm on Saturday, September 23, as temperatures soared across the state.

Aerial footage shared by the NSW Rural Fire Service shows traffic at a standstill due to the road closure, after the fire was first reported at about 1:30 pm.

The RFS issued an emergency warning to those living in the area.

The highway, which is the main arterial road connecting Sydney and Canberra, was closed in both directions at Inverary Road, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
