It's a thought that never occurred to us, though on much reflection it makes a lot of sense – Batman for Prime Minister.

Well, that's a proposition that Environment Secretary Michael Gove raised – or rather showed his vehement opposition to – during a debate on a no confidence motion against the government in the House of Commons yesterday (January 16).

At least if the subtitles are to be believed.

During his speech, Gove denounced Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, telling the House: "No way can this country ever allow that man to be our Prime Minister."

However, the BBC subtitles heard things quite differently and translated "that man" into "Batman". Yep.

And, social media being social media, plenty of hilarity ensued, one person tweeting: "Batman for Prime Minister! He’s the Prime Minister we need, but not the one we deserve."

Another added: "Best subtitle blunder ever. 'There’s no way this country can ever allow Batman to be our Prime Minister' I call it now; he’d do a better job than Theresa or Jeremy."

Plenty of others had a field day, with #BatmanforPM even trending on Twitter:

This wasn't the only hilarious BBC live error this week, as one newsreader mispronounced Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt's name and said a very rude word.

Carrie Gracie did not immediately apologise for the blunder, though, to be fair, this isn't the first time it's happened.
