This is the moment a New Zealand policeman tries to capture a suspect by using a quad bike to herd them.

The footage shows a man standing in a field after police find a crashed car.

A rural Benny Hill scene then plays out, with Constable Ben Grant on the back of a quad bike driven by a farmer.

The incident, shown on TVNZ’s Highway Cops, took place ihe Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand.

The suspect slowly jogs away from the vehicle, which continues to circle.

He later jumped over a fence, as officers kept their distance over fears he may have had a knife.

One bystander - a farmer named Scott - said: “He's lost the plot, I think.”

"Stressing out, I don't know. He's obviously had a prang down here.

"He's on something, I think, by the look of it."

Officers suspected the man had been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The suspect was later stopped with help from the police dogs.
