The Hills: New Beginnings cast, trailer and premiere as Audrina, Justin, Brody and more return to MTV

The Hills, the noughties MTV show that was loosely based in reality and created gifs that would live on for years, is making its triumphant return to MTV tonight.

The show originally ran from 2006 to 2010, offering viewers a glimpse at life in the Hollywood Hills, complete with bottle service inside the popular nightclubs of the time (almost all are closed now), life at Teen Vogue during the peak of the magazine’s popularity, and plenty of distant stares into the ether to show how contemplative the show’s gorgeous stars could be.

But the reboot is not the show you remember - gone are the days of Lauren Conrad wearing Gossip Girl-inspired headbands and crying mascara tears. Conrad opted out of appearing on The Hills: New Beginnings. Instead, she's focusing on her Kohl's clothing collection, life with her family (she married former Something Corporate guitarist William Tell and they have a son named Liam), and running her non-profit boutique The Little Market.

LC might no longer be on MTV, but she’ll always be the girl who didn’t go to Paris.

It’s unsurprising that Conrad chose not to return, as she was open about wanting to leave the original show. “I really struggled with leaving because I wasn’t happy doing it anymore, and, at the time, I was in a relationship with someone that could never exist on camera. I was ready to start my real life. There was always compromise when I was filming, and I had to decide what I could share and what I couldn’t and I felt like very little was my own,” she told InStyle in 2016.

Who's appearing on The Hills: New Beginnings?

While Conrad and her best friend Lo Bosworth won’t be returning, plenty of fan favorites are, including Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, Whitney Port, Justin Bobby, and Brody Jenner.

Original reality TV villain Spencer Pratt is back with his wife, Heidi Montag - and their son, Instagram star Gunner (he's already attended the VMAs and has more than 70,000 followers). Here's to hoping that Pratt's impressive crystal collection will play a role. Now, viewers at home can buy crystals from Pratt Daddy Crystals.

He's become a devoted dad since the show ended. He's now focused on his incredibly normal suburban daily routine, which he painstakingly documents on Snapchat. It involves espresso, listening to Taylor Swift, and monitoring his home's hummingbirds. It's far removed from the copious amounts of drama he caused as Lauren Conrad's ultimate nemesis back in the day (but just as enthralling).

Spencer’s sister, Stephanie Pratt, also appears. Since the end of The Hills, her life has been eventful. She opened up about her crystal meth addiction in her memoir Made in Reality. She went on to become a UK reality star, appearing on Made in Chelsea, but now she's back in Los Angeles to film.

She and Spencer always had a rocky relationship and it's expected to continue in the reboot.

"I'm not going to pretend that Spencer and Heidi are good people like I was doing for most of the series for my parents. For the [expletive] they have done to me recently, I'm done. This is why I moved to London. I'm done. They are the most toxic people I've ever met," she said during her podcast. "This is me actually exiting my family. I've tried to be nice to her for 10 years because I love my brother," she said about Heidi, who she blames for the falling out.

Whitney Port

Whitney Port, Conrad’s quietly capable Teen Vogue confidante who spawned her own spin-off, The City, is returning. The influencer has her own blog and podcast and currently lives in Studio City in Los Angeles, California, with her husband and son, Sonny.

Much like the rest of us, she also wanted L.C. to return, along with Kristin Cavallari, who's currently starring on her own reality show. "I really wanted both [Lauren] and Kristin to come back because the show was pretty much based on the two of them...But people go in different directions, and we’re older now, so I understand not wanting to be on TV anymore. I was definitely disappointed," she told Cosmopolitan. "I definitely don’t think it’s going to be scripted," she added, which would be a departure from the original.

Mischa Barton

The most surprising new addition is actress Mischa Barton. In a meta twist, she played the beautifully damaged Marissa Cooper in The OC, which Laguna Beach, the precursor to The Hills was originally based on.

“It’s weird because I remember going out with Nicole Richie and people at the time, and we would come by set when they were filming The Hills. She would drag me to the producer van to see what you guys had been up to all day. All these years later...it sounds corny, but it felt like this was supposed to happen,” Barton told Cosmopolitan.

Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter Jenner

Back when The Hills was on the air, Brody was the most famous member of the Kardashian family. Now, he's in his former step-siblings shadows. He and his wife Kaitlynn Carter are slated to appear, although there are rumors that Jenner was having issues with the producers and took a long time to cement his deal.

He recently admitted that the show is different without LC.

“It would’ve been nice to have them. Lauren narrated the entire show before. This, I feel has an entirely different feel. There’s more camera time and things like that with cast members and you get to see different dramas. It’s a whole different format for the show which is really cool. Kind of hard to get used to but it definitely adds a different element for viewers to see.” He went on to praise his new costars. “Honestly, this cast was wild and great,” Jenner said.

Audrina and her on-and-off-again love interest Justin Bobby, a man so great he needed two names, are seen in the trailer engaged in a heated discussion about their former relationship. Will they reunite? Truth and time tell all - but we can only hope that he still wears combat boots to the beach.

Brandon Thomas Lee

Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson's son Brandon Thomas Lee is making his small screen debut.

“For the longest time, I never thought I would do anything like this. Because when I was a little baby…I had paparazzi jumping over my fence trying to take photos of me, all this stuff, and it was a lot for a kid. I could not handle it," he told WWD

Frankie Delgado and Jason Wahler are also slated to appear. Watch the trailer here:
