Hillwalker airlifted to hospital following 'medical emergency' near Edinburgh

A huge emergency response was seen in the Pentland Hills on Sunday.

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue, medics, police and the coastguard all worked together to assist a hillwalker following a report of a medical emergency.

The casualty was stretchered down the hill at West Kip before being airlifted to hospital for further treatment.

In a post on social media, the mountain rescue team wished the hillwalker a 'swift and full recovery'. Images from the scene show the huge emergency response as medics and mountain rescue race up the side of the hill to assist.

The helicopter, provided by the Coastguard then transferred the casualty to hospital.

The Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team said: "On Sunday evening, the Team was called out to a medical emergency on West Kip in the Pentland Hills. The casualty was safely evacuated on a stretcher by Team members, alongside paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service and transferred to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency's Rescue 199 helicopter from Prestwick to be taken to hospital for further treatment. We wish the casualty a swift and full recovery.

"This incident demonstrated excellent inter-agency working, with officers from Police Scotland, paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service, a visiting member from Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency ’s Rescue 199 all working together with TVMRT to assist the casualty as quickly as possible."
