NBC has dropped the first trailer for its upcoming new musical drama series Rise, and it looks like How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor has well and truly put his Ted Mosby days behind him.

Based on the book Drama High by Michael Sokolove and inspired by the famed theatre programme at Harry S Truman High School in Pennsylvania, Rise follows English teacher Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor) who takes over the high school theatre department in what becomes a life-changing decision.

The series also marks Moana star Auli'i Cravalho's live-action debut as she stars as Lillette Suarez, and you can get a first look at her in action in the trailer below:

"Being a teenager is hard," the trailer introduces as it prepares to delve into the lives of seven teens, touching on issues including sleeping rough and alcohol dependency.

"I had this vision that Staten High School could be different," Radnor's Lou adds. "I believe it can be. Right now, let's dream big."

And, when you think about it, Ted Mosby stepping into Will Schuester's shoes actually makes perfect sense.
