The historic Surrey pub people travel from all over the world to visit that serves a goliath roast dinner
You may be used to classic roast dinners. Every traditional English pub features a range of beef, pork, lamb or chicken on its menu, accompanied by potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and plenty of gravy.
However, one pub in Horley is doing things a bit differently, with an eye-catching twist. The centre piece of The Thor's Hammer Experience at The Farmhouse is a slow-roasted beef shank - slow roasted for 10 hours.
Sitting in the centre of the platter, its remarkable appearance gives the course its name - and its long cooking time means the meat literally falls off the bone. The dish is served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, seasonal vegetables and lashings of rich homemade gravy.

It serves up to four people for £75. The family-run pub is just a small drive from Gatwick Airport.
Despite its excellent transport links, The Farmhouse has a countryside feel and has all the accoutrements of a traditional English pub including a large garden, small children's playground and even a resident ghost!
But it's not only its location that gives the pub an international twist. The building is lent a Canadian flair by its landlady Tracy.
It is housed in an historic Grade II-listed building, where the original farmhouse of Hewitt's farm once stood back in 1602. And what has followed is a rich and varied history; one standout reticent was a solicitor who it is said acted on behalf of Mrs Wallis Simpson during the abdication of Edward Vlll.
Those who eat at The Farmhouse don’t have to partake in such large portions either. Its menu includes some more regular roasts, as well as lighter baguettes, burgers and a range of desserts.
Other main courses include its famous rib eye on the bone, a large steak with pan-fried mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and chips. The pub also serves afternoon tea and currently has its own festive option.
At £22 a person, customers can get a seasonal range of sandwiches (cheese and chutney, turkey and cranberry, egg mayo, and tuna and sweetcorn), scones, mini mince pies, stollen bites, Christmas cake, chocolate brownie, and macaroons. And for £37 a person, diners will also get bottomless Prosecco.
The Farmhouse is just off the M23 and attracts a range of customers including the odd international traveller looking for a bite to eat before heading to the airport. This is shown through the range of locations reviews have been written from, everywhere from Reigate to the United States.
For those not jetting too far off shores, the pub is also surrounded by walking and cycling trails and has an informal Golf Society that plays at a number of courses in the south east throughout the year.
