A police officer who was deliberately mowed down in a “heinous” hit-and-run incident has sustained serious injuries to his skull and brain.

The car then mowed the officer down, before speeding off from the scene.

The white car, with a 2010 registration plate, was found dumped around 500 metres away, before the driver fled on foot.

Detectives are seeking to recover CCTV footage in the nearby area and interviewing witnesses as they work “round the clock” to bring the offender to justice.
