THE UK and Ireland tour of a hit romantic musical comedy kicked off in Brighton this week.
Musical production Waitress had its first show at the Theatre Royal Brighton yesterday, Monday, July 11.
It will be running at the venue until Saturday, July 16.
Producers Barry and Fran Weissler and David Ian said they were thrilled to be bringing their “slice of five star pie”, as described by The Times.
The production stars Chelsea Halfpenny, Wendy Mae Brown, Evelyn Hoskins and David Hunter.
Chelsea Halfpenny began her career in the popular children’s television series Byker Grove. She also appeared in Emmerdale and Casualty.
Wendy Mae Brown’s television credits include Almost Never, River, Man Down, Porters, 40 North and Casualty. Her film credits include Four Weddings And A Funeral.
Evelyn Hoskins’ theatre credits include the title role in Carrie, Spring Awakening, Assassins and Mrs Henderson Presents.
David Hunter is known for his time on ITV’s Superstar, competing to play the role of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. His film and television credits include Nativity 3, Holby City and Doctors.
Waitress is based on the 2007 film written by Adrienne Shelly with music and lyrics by Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles.
The story follows Jenna, an expert pie maker in a small town, who dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage.
A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a new life, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes to happiness.
But Jenna must find the courage and strength within herself to rebuild her life. This beautiful musical celebrates friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
