HMP Berwyn inmate 'knocked out as if unconscious' told guards he just had 'stye' in his eye
A prisoner kicked a fellow inmate because he thought he was stealing from him. Callum Woods may have knocked his victim unconscious in the assault at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham.
But the victim Kyle Dolling told prison officers an eye injury caused by the defendant had only been a "stye" and refused to make a statement. However Woods, 23, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.
A judge at Caernarfon Crown Court today jailed him for 19 weeks on top of his existing sentence. Prosecutor Catherine Elvin said on October 13 last year prison staff noticed Mr Dolling had a facial injury

Ms Elvin said Dolling said he had a "stye in his eye" and refused to make a statement. But prison guards looked back at CCTV footage and saw Dolling standing by a cell door. You can sign up for all the latest court stories here
The footage, played in court, shows Dolling bending down and then Woods coming up and kicking him in the face. Dolling is knocked over "as if unconscious", said the prosecutor.
Dolling had reddening and bruising to the side of his face. The court heard Woods is serving a sentence of 13 years and nine months for a firearm and drugs offence.
Olivia Belle, defending, said her client is truly sorry. Woods believed the victim, who she said is serving a life sentence, was stealing things and Woods was scared of him.
But Woods wishes he had handled his frustrations differently. Nevertheless he has done victim empathy and other courses in prison.
The judge His Honour Timothy Petts told the defendant this was clearly not the way to deal with things. He had to receive a sentence which must be consecutive to his existing sentence so jailed him for 19 weeks on top of his current term.
