Hoboken Police Officer Rescues Elderly Driver Stranded in Floodwaters

New Jersey residents were stranded in floodwaters across the state after the remnants of Ida dumped heavy rainfall in the region, footage from Thursday, September 2 shows.

New Jersey Gov Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency as deadly flooding and at least two tornadoes hit the state.

This video filmed by Hoboken resident Nicholas Lenzi shows a Hoboken Police Department officer carrying a driver stranded in floodwaters to safety on Thursday morning.

“This intersection floods every storm but Ida dropped over three inches of rain in an hour last night at 9 pm,” Lenzi told Storyful.

“The vehicle in the video tried to drive through … but got stuck,” he said. “The police came to help but because he was elderly he was afraid he was going to have a heart attack. So the officer went out to get him and carried him back to dry ground.” Credit: Nicholas Lenzi via Storyful
