Holby City star Belinda Owusu has shared the happy news that she is expecting her first child – and she doesn't have long to go as she's already 40 weeks pregnant.

The actor posted a photo of herself heavily pregnant on Instagram, captioned: "Ready when you are, kid #40weeks"

By handy coincidence, her Holby City character Nicky McKendrick is also expecting at the moment, meaning Owusu's maternity leave should tie in nicely with her storyline in the BBC medical drama.

Owusu's screen alter-ego made a shock discovery about her pregnancy recently when she realised her heart medication could have affected whether or not a test would show up as positive.

Nicky decided to check out her symptoms by performing an ultrasound on herself, where she found that she was in fact pregnant and was quite far along.

She then had to tell boyfriend Cameron the news, although thanks to his own dramas, it isn't guaranteed that he will stand by her.

Owusu, best known for her long-running role as Libby Fox in EastEnders, which she left in 2017, was congratulated on her real-life announcement by some celebrity friends.

Chizzy Akudolu, who starred as medic Mo in Holby City, commented: "Can’t wait. Let me know if you need Dr Mo by your side."

Amy Lennox, who co-stars as Chloe Godard, wrote: "Hurry up Baby B - auntie Amy has been waiting ages now."

Kaye Wragg, who left her Holby City role as Essie Harrison last year, showed she was just as surprised by the news as Owusu's fans.

Owusu also received best wishes from Laila Rouass and Dawn Steele.
