Tonight's Holby City (December 11) gave us not one but two weddings, plus some heartbreak for a fan-favourite couple.

First up were Greta and Jason, who were struck with disaster on their big day after a window fell in at the church, leaving the vicar in A&E and the church being declared not structurally safe.

But the wedding was saved by Zav and Syd, who managed to make the hospital garden wedding-ready and rope in pal Henry de Havilland (Strictly's Reverend Richard Coles) to officiate.

Then it was over to Dom and Lofty, who after some ups and downs decided that the time was right to get married after all as the two piggybacked on Greta and Jason's ceremony.

But with all this happiness, there had to be a dose of heartbreak too.

Sadly it came for Bernie and Serena, who appeared to reach a crossroads in their relationship.

The much-loved couple ended up having a difficult heart-to-heart, where they realised that staying together would mean each would have to sacrifice so much.

Serena told Bernie she "didn’t fall in love with Suburban Bernie Wolfe", while Bernie acknowledged that the Serena she fell in love with wanted a more domestic life.

After everything they had been through, Bernie made her exit by giving Serena a salute, promising they'd always care for each other.

Fans of the show were left heartbroken for Serena over losing Bernie again.

Holby City airs on BBC One.
