Former Holby City star Eleanor Fanyinka has well and truly moved on from the world of medical drama, with the actress set to star in an upcoming project from the team behind Once Upon a Time.

Eleanor – who played Morven Digby from 2015 to 2017 in the BBC One series – has joined the cast of new ABC series Epic. The series, described as a "romantic anthology", will be written by Once Upon a Time's Brigitte Hales.

The news of Eleanor's casting as The Seer, a mysterious and playful figure who leads others down the path of true love, was first confirmed by Deadline.

It was revealed back in 2019 that Epic, which has Once Upon a Time co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis on board, is set in a fairytale universe – specifically, a "Disney-like Enchanted Forest".

Despite its similarities, Epic will not take place within the same universe as Once Upon a Time, and will instead introduce all-new characters and new takes on classic tropes.

Although it sounds like Epic will set a different tone to Once Upon a Time, former OUAT star Jennifer Morrison isn't entirely convinced that that's what viewers need.

Defending Once Upon a Time earlier this year, the Emma Swan actress argued that there should be more to TV than "edgy and dark" shows that have "good reviews" and "street cred".

"Somehow for many, many years now we've been in this headspace that a happy ending is cheesy," she explained. "That's a really, really dangerous message to tell the world."

Holby City continues tonight (Tuesday, March 23) at 7.50pm on BBC One.
