Essie di Lucca had her world turned upside down in tonight's (August 20) Holby City, when a woman with links to her past popped up out of the blue.

A patient named 'Lorna' came in with an abdominal pain and wanted to see Raf, but was hesitant to give away any details about herself. She got upset when Essie told her that Raf was dead, which led Dominic to believe her story about her being a former patient of his was fake.

After they diagnosed an issue related to her placenta, 'Lorna' admitted that her real name was Frankie, but it took longer for her to admit the truth: she was related to Raf, and he was the only one who supported her when she had a child that she struggles to cope with.

With Essie being the closest thing to family, Frankie decided to offer her to take the baby. Essie considered taking her up on it, but Dom told her it would land her in so much trouble.

After Frankie begged Essie to take the baby, she agreed to look after the little one for a week, but no longer.

Meanwhile, Xav accused Ric of making mistakes and got a proper dressing down for it (which only served to reinforce Xav's belief). Elsewhere, Evan turned up for a few minutes and in that time he managed to manipulate Fletch into arguing with Ange, which led to them breaking up.

Evan later turned up again at Chloe and Nicky's place to make the latter 'look for his headphones'. She couldn't find them and he left, but Nicky was left believing that he had placed a camera or done something while her back was turned.

As the episode ended, we discovered that (surprise surprise) that was exactly what he did.

Holby City airs on BBC One.
