Holby City spoilers follow.

Jac Naylor is now hiding a tragic secret following a heartbreaking episode of Holby City.

Tuesday's (January 11) visit to Holby was a rollercoaster for Jac as she tried to fight through the after-effects of a seizure to present her case to pull the hospital out of special measures.

Jac was able to get through the presentation, only to find out that it's now likely all specialist surgical wards will be relocated to a single site — likely at St James' hospital instead.

With this horrible news obviously weighing on her, Jac suffered another seizure and this time she couldn't hide it. She was taken in for an MRI and then rushed into the surgery theatre for an emergency procedure.

Jac flatlined during the procedure, but did make it through to tell Henrik they'd managed to fully remove the tumour, telling him: "Max [McGerry] is the Lionel Messi of neuro."

Henrik then shared his own "good news" — the hospital would get another three months for reassessment before the CDS makes its final decision.

"Get some rest, please. We need you fighting fit," Henrik instructed.

However, a scene with Max later on revealed Jac hadn't been telling the truth because her condition is much more grave than she let on. Max realised the lies Jac had been telling when she heard Sacha mentioning the tumour is "all gone".

"You're an inspiration, Jac," Sacha said with an uncomfortable Max looking on. "It's not just the patients this hospital saves. It's all of us."

Once they were alone, Max clarified that Jac had heard her correctly earlier — the tumour hasn't gone. Max then questioned why Jac would lie to her friends about such a serious medical issue?

"Because right now, I am fighting for their jobs," she insisted.

As Max urged her to accept support, Jac put it off by insisting they wait until the scan results come in. She also reminded Max that her diagnosis remains under doctor-patient confidentiality.

"It goes no further. Am I clear?" Jac asked.

Max had no choice but to agree to Jac's demands. The episode closed on Jac contemplating whether or not she will pull through.

Holby City airs on Tuesdays on BBC One.
